How are kite surf kites sized and measured?
Recreational kites can range from 4m to 17m in size. If you put the canopy flat and measured it, you could find its size. A 9m kite for example covers and measures a total of 9 square meters.
How long are kiteboarding lines?
When taking lessons a beginner will learn with short lines ranging from 5m to 15m. As they progress they will move up to longer lines ranging from 20m to 25m. Kiteboarding lines for recreational use range from 18m to 25m.
What material are kiteboarding kites made of?
The majority of modern kitesurfing kites are made of polyester because it has a superior UV resistance. The only downside is that polyester kites can be more easily ripped and torn, compared to ripstop nylon kites.
When was kitesurfing invented?
It is hard to pinpoint the exact date of when kiteboarding was invented. What we do know is that, two brothers, Bruno Legaignoux and Dominique Legaignoux, from the Atlantic coast of France, began developing kites in the late 1970s and early 1980s. In November 1984 the brothers filed a patent on an inflatable kite design, this design has since been used by companies internationally to develop their own products.
Can an IKO Instructor work in a non Affiliated Center?
Yes, as long as he adheres to the IKO Standards and is covered by a valid professional Insurance.
How to send student feedback?
A student feedback request is automatically sent each time you certify a student.When you certify a student, the system logs your teaching hours and the student’s number.At the time a student sends his feedback, you will receive this in your profile rating and reviews. This will have an influence on your vote.It may take 1-2 days before you receive the student feedback in your profile because IKO reviews and approves student feedback before posting to your profile. Who should I contact to enroll in a Pro-training Course (ATC /ITC)?
Go to the Training Calendar and book your course online. You can also contact the ATC/ITC Organizer directly to sign up for a course. Contact details can be found on the Training Calendar. Candidates provide all required documents, like the CPR and Candidate waiver, to the Organizer, not the IKO.

You are able to view all online courses along with descriptions and training hours by going to the Ecourses Page. Please note that some courses are only open to Instructors of a certain level.
I am certified by another organization. What can I do to become IKO Instructor?
You can enroll in any IKO Instructor Training Course (ITC) to qualify as an IKO Instructor without needing to attend the IKO Assistant Training Course (ATC) first. Contact us to reserve your spot.
