No, all membership plans include at least one type of insurance.
Could the IKO get even cheaper insurance?
Because the IKO is the world's largest kite sports organization, we have negotiated very competitive rates for 2020. After the first year of cover, insurance prices and benefits will be revised according to the number of people who sign up and the number of claims that are filed.
Does membership renewal automatically include insurance?
Yes, all membership renewals include insurance, however you must select your membership plan based on the type of insurance you want to be covered by.
How long is the insurance valid for?
The insurance starts as soon as your membership is paid to the IKO and is valid for a period of one year[BZ7] . For Pro courses, the validity period of your Insurance after paying the training fee depends on the training you are doing. You can find more information in the Training Organizer Guide.
With the professional third party liability insurance: are my students covered if they injure and/or damage other people or their property?
If the injury/damage to the third party caused by the student is because of your mistake as an instructor, then the student is covered. If the incident to the third party is caused by the student’s mistake, because they did not respect your instructions or safety rules, for example, then the student is liable. They may be covered by the recreational third party liability insurance if they have it.
As a Canadian or American citizen, when is my professional third party liability insurance valid?
Your professional third party liability insurance is valid worldwide, except when you are working in the USA or Canada. This means that if you are working in an IKO Center outside the USA and CANADA, you will be covered.
When is my professional third party liability insurance valid?
The professional third party liability insurance is valid when you are working at any valid IKO Affiliated Center. If the kite school you are working at is not affiliated with the IKO, the school manager can apply online for free affiliation so the kite school becomes an IKO Affiliated Kite Center.
What is the difference between third party liability and personal accident insurance cover?
Third party liability insurance protects you against claims from others. Personal accident insurance compensates you or an assigned beneficiary in the event of your disability, rescue or death, resulting from your personal kitesurfing practice or your professional kitesurfing activity.
There is no medical expense indemnity included in the personal accident insurance cover.
As an Assistant or Instructor, what does professional liability insurance cover?
The professional liability insurance covers you when you ride on your own and while you work based on your qualifications and as long as you respect the IKO Standards.
Can I learn to kite with the Kiter membership?
The Kiter membership is designed as a facilitator to help you through your learning of kiteboarding and enhance your lessons with an IKO Instructor. In no way can the Kiter membership or any of the online educational content replace the essential hands-on training and services you will receive at one of our IKO Centers to learn and experience kiteboarding with confidence.
