Recreational kites can range from 4m to 17m in size. If you put the canopy flat and measured it, you could find its size. A 9m kite for example covers and measures a total of 9 square meters.
How long are kiteboarding lines?
When taking lessons a beginner will learn with short lines ranging from 5m to 15m. As they progress they will move up to longer lines ranging from 20m to 25m. Kiteboarding lines for recreational use range from 18m to 25m.
What material are kiteboarding kites made of?
The majority of modern kitesurfing kites are made of polyester because it has a superior UV resistance. The only downside is that polyester kites can be more easily ripped and torn, compared to ripstop nylon kites.
When was kitesurfing invented?
It is hard to pinpoint the exact date of when kiteboarding was invented. What we do know is that, two brothers, Bruno Legaignoux and Dominique Legaignoux, from the Atlantic coast of France, began developing kites in the late 1970s and early 1980s. In November 1984 the brothers filed a patent on an inflatable kite design, this design has since been used by companies internationally to develop their own products.
