Buying a second-hand kite can and is often a great way to get a first and/or additional kite to ones quiver. Whether you are buying from a shop, pro or a rider; you should follow some of these guidelines to help ensure a good purchase.
-
Avoid ever buying a kite that needs repairs or has been majorly repaired.
-
Always inflate the kite to check it out. Things to look for when inflated are: repairs - worn out bridles/pulleys - kite holds air - one pump strut inflate hoses are in good shape - kite color is not to faded.
-
Avoid buying kites that are worn out. A kite may not have any repairs but instead be very worn out from day to day use; avoid these.
-
Avoid buying a kite that is older than 3 years old.
-
When possible try to fly before buying.
Bonus: Try to buy a second hand kite you physically can see and try instead of buying second hand online. There are some large online retailers that are trustworthy though when buying from random kiters, it is a gamble. It is best to avoid buying second hand online unless its from an authorized dealer/reseller.
