You are planning to become a kiteboard Instructor and follow an IKO Instructor Training Course (ITC); here are 5 tips to get the best chance to pass the course.
1. Ride as much as possible!
This is the basis of kiteboarding. You want to teach it, so you must master it! Challenge yourself out of your comfort zone, use different types of kites, try it with shorter/longer lines. Try to fly a kite with as less wind as possible! Ride in different spot/weather conditions. This will be very helpful for your ITC.
2. Practice the safety procedures in real situation
You will have to do a self-launching, self-landing, self-rescue and packdown, board-rescue and rider-rescue during the ITC riding test. So to have more chance to pass it, practice it before! If you are not 100% sure about this procedures, check the IKO contents (Kiteboarder Handbooks, Assistant Instructor Manual) or ask to the ITC School Organizer or Assistant Trainer to give you tips.
3. Work as Assistant Instructor
Being Assistant is one of the ITC prerequisites so take the most of it! Pass the certification and before going for the ITC, practice as Assistant Instructor to learn from/with experienced Instructors.
4. Study the theory!
Review the theory of the Assistant Instructor manual before the beginning of the ITC. Meteorology, Aerodynamics, International Communication Signs, Equipment, etc...
5. Watch the video “Teaching Discovery Level 1”
To learn the proper teaching steps, you have free access to this video from the Elearning section of your account. Watch it over and over until you understand perfectly how a lesson should be conducted properly.
